Romans
Once captured, the Romans showed little interest in its hard-won prize of Carthage for many years and the territory was left largely to the Numidians, until Rome’s attempt to divide the territory lead to a long war, numerous battles and eventually its re-establishment as a Roman city in 44BC.
In the centuries that followed up to the beginning of the 5th century AD, Romans colonised most of Tunisia, building magnificent towns, such as Dougga and Sbeitla, and introducing Christianity to North Africa, along the way.
Just as Roman power had gained strength, so it was lost, and, with its powers in terminal decline, the Vandals turned their attention from southern Spain and began to fight their way across Carthage.
