Tabarka

An inset map image of Northern Tunisia

The recently developed resort of Tabarka is built around a stylish marina, Porto Corallo, and a magnificent beach surrounded by dunes of soft golden sand. The setting is spectacular, with the imposing Khroumirie Mountains on one side and a natural harbour dominated by an impressive Genoese castle on the other. Tunisia’s northern coast has warm, dry summers and mild winters, ensuring the surrounding countryside remains lush and green.

Tabarka is an excellent base for a quiet family holiday. Days can be spent scuba diving, lazing on the beach or visiting nearby historic sites. During the summer, this usually quiet town comes to life for two weeks with the arrival of the International Jazz Festival, usually scheduled in July.

Don’t miss

A boat trip to La Galite Island, 55km (35 miles) from the coast. For divers, the island shelters a well-preserved shipwreck, and its nature reserve is home to a colony of monk seals.

Hiking, bird watching, or horse riding in the forest-covered Khroumirie Mountains. The region is a nature-lovers paradise.
