Northern Tunisia

An inset map image of Northern Tunisia

This delightful part of the country hides some of the most fascinating towns in Tunisia. From Bizerte, with its picturesque old port, to Ain Draham, which is popular with hikers. While the Roman sites at Dougga, Bulla Regia, Utica, the fortress city of Le Kef and surrounding countryside could keep you amused for days.

For many years, Northern Tunisia was surprisingly overlooked by visitors, who preferred the more obvious charms of the Cap Bon and Djerba. Today however, the situation is changing as travellers come to appreciate the beautiful, rugged and untouched coastline, the milder northern climate, fascinating Roman sites such as Bulla Regia, and the remarkable architecture of some of the earliest Tunisian settlements founded by the Phoenicians. For hikers, a trek into the wooded hills of Khroumirie Mountains will be a real highpoint of any stay here, whilst ornithologists here to take advantage of our wonderful winter weather, won’t want to miss the migrating birds visiting Lake Ichkeul. If it’s rest and relaxation you’re after, beach-lovers will find the warm sands around the charming towns of Tabarka, Bizerte and Raf Raf perfect for swimming, relaxing and enjoying our famously warm Tunisian hospitality.
