This World Heritage-listed national park is 30km (18 miles) south-west of Bizerte, encompassing Lake  Ichkeul, the last in a chain of shallow freshwater lakes, and adjoining Jebel Ichkeul mountain.

An important bird sanctuary, 200,000 Palaearctic waterfowl such as geese, storks and flamingos migrate here every year to escape the harsh European winters.

Fauna include mongeese, porcupines, jackals, wild boar and water buffalo (descended from just one pair given to Ahmed Bey in 1840!). It contains an information centre, picnic tables, hiking routes and a car park.
