Shopping

All over Tunisia you’ll come across colourful markets crammed with all sorts of locally made goods from rugs and carpets, to jewellery, ceramics and perfumes. In larger towns you’ll also find modern shopping centres that compare with those in Britain.

Souvenir shops can be found in most towns although it is worth browsing in one of the state-owned ONAT shops (Office Nationale de l'Artisanat Tunisienne – translation National Handicraft Office).

This will give you an idea of some of the many souvenirs available and you can be sure of the quality and provenance of whatever you take home.  For high-end shopping, head to the shopping complex Berges du Lac where you can find international brands, often cheaper than they are at home.
