Camping

There are only a few official campsites in Tunisia at the moment, but their numbers are growing. Camping may be allowed within the grounds of some hotels or youth hostels, but this would need to be agreed with the landowner and/or police. It is forbidden to sleep out on the main tourist beaches. In the south of Tunisia there could be the option of sleeping in a Bedouin tent. Prices and services for each campsite will vary.

Youth hostels

There are over 30 youth hostels in Tunisia. Five of these hostels are run by the Tunisian Youth Hostel Association (YHA) which tend to be the better hostels. Men and women are always in separate rooms. It is common for your passport to be taken on arrival and only given back on checking out of the hostel. Generally the hostels are clean and safe.
